Chun See commented that my quizes are "a bit too tough" for him these days. So for his sake, I am giving an easy one this time. Should be a piece of cake. No clues needed.
The petrol station in the photo looks like a typical one in rural Malaysia, doesn't it? Well, it is not. Nowadays, I believe even some petrol stations in rural Malaysia look newer than that.
Would you believe that this "remnant from a bygone era" is in Singapore? It has got to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest petrol station in Singapore. No supermarket or convenience store in this outlet, only a car wash.
It probably dates back to the 1950s. Don't expect it to charge 1950s prices for petrol though. For cheap petrol, you still have to go further up north where the petrol stations are newer.
The petrol station badly needs a paint job and I have done just that. That is painting over the essential bits so that the quiz won't be too easy.
Quiz Questions:
1. What brand of petrol does this petrol station sell?
2. Where is this petrol station located? Give the road name.

maybe last time sell Standard Oil/ESSO? Now ESSO becomes MOBILE but corporate colours not the same.
Yeah.. ESSO..
peter, it's logo used to be a red star
Caltex?
MOBIL then??
The star logo of CALTEX used to be BLACK in colour right??
so is it near Victor's work place or not?
Ah ..... this one I know. It's the Caltex Station along Woodlands Rd between Stagmont Ring and Sungei Kaduk. Yes it is a very old petrol station. When we were young and had to travel north to JB, we had to pass this place and often the cars would stop here to top up petrol. Of course in those days, there was no BKE or silly 3/4 tank rule.
How about you Victor? Were you able to identify 'my' old petrol station?
I wonder which is older. Your Caltex station or my Shell station.
Both began in the mid-50s. Behind the Stagmont Ring station was an oil storage depot built before WW2. I saw it there in the early 1960s and I think it was used by the British Army units in that area.
near Jln Jurong Kechil?
Victor hasnt confirmed Chun See's answer. But i think im still wrong. Heh
andrew, victor will not reveal the answer until much later. anyway, i am very sure chun see's answer is correct because i used to patronise this service station. it is the nearest caltex station to my place at bukit panjang.
Hey Victor, I'm not so sure about the identity of the petrol station, but I think its located somewhere along Woodlands Road which adjoins to Kranji. Making a WILD GUESS.... haha
